Gisting a Akranesi is a accommodation in the town of Akranes, West-Iceland. Akranes is a seaport town of 6000 people, located on the tip of Skipa-Skaginn peninsula. About 45 minutes drive from Reykjavik (49 km/ 30 miles). Fishing industry is still highly important source of employment but commerce, service and industry of all kinds is getting stronger. Akranes is a service center for the surrounding rural region a.m.o with schools and a Hospital.
The accommodation is located on the street "Bakkatun", on the ground floor of a private house of the hostess Johanna. Bakkatun is a beautiful street, by the sea, in the lower side of Akranes. It is 500 m (1/3 of a mile) from the old town's center square and on the way you will find an ATM, a bank, a bakery and and the old swimming-pool, to name a few. Just a little further is the bus terminal from Reykjavik and a coffeehouse. The next grocery store is in less than 10 min walking distant and the harbor 5 min away.
On a good day, the sunset is amazing, in Bakkatun and the street is enriched with wonderful bird-life. When the weather is bad (not so often ! ), especially in the winter, the magnificent big ocean breaking waves, spilling and rolling on the beach, in front of the house, is overwhelming and empowering. From the nearest streets you can see Mt. Akrafjall and the mountains of the whole Snaefellsnes peninsula, with it’s crown-jewel glacier Snaefellsjokull. Akranes is close to many beautiful nature spots in Iceland; Hvalfjordur, Borgarfjordur and Kjalarnes. In Akranes there is a lot to do, shops with interesting artists, various museums, beautiful walking paths, swimming-pools and a golf-course.

The accommodation is open the year around, 3 bedrooms for 6 - 10 persons. The accommodation is smoke-free.
Available are three double-rooms with made up beds or sleeping-bag accommodation. All rooms are equipped with a sink but the bathroom and kitchen are shared. The kitchen has a coffee-maker, toaster, stove, pots, dishes and most basic kitchen appliances. There is a shared washing machine and out-door washing-lines. It is possible to eat outside when the weather is good. There is also a high speed wireless internet access for you own laptop computer without extra charge. Voltage requirements are 220 volts. Check in/ out time is upon an agreement.
Room 1 is 10 sq. meters (about 108 sq. ft.) with two 90 cm (about 35 in.) wide beds.
Room 2 is 15 sq. meters (about 162 sq. ft.) with two 90 cm wide (about 35 in.) beds. Additional to that, there is a sleeping-couch in the room that can be used (140 cm / 55 inch wide when extended). Additional fee will be added if the couch is used.
Room 3 is 15 sq. meters (about 162 sq. ft.) with one queen-sized bed.
