The region between Chicago/Detroit and New Orleans is of great importance when it comes to modern popular music. Mississippi is for example the home of many great bluesman, including Skip James, who's style undoubtedly influenced many, especially in the latter half of the 20th century.
The song above, Hard time killing floor blues, remains one of my favorites. It's recorded during the blues revival of the 1960's when many of the first recorded bluesmen of the south got tracked down by enthusiasts. Skip James was found lying in a hospital bed in Tunica, Mississippi. Another gem is Devil got my woman.
